The Central Government has given the green light to the Amaravati-Hyderabad Greenfield Expressway—an ambitious infrastructure project designed to significantly cut travel time between the two cities. The expressway, spanning six lanes, will bypass existing road networks to ensure faster and more efficient connectivity.
According to reports, the Centre has committed full financial support for the project, including funding for land acquisition. The estimated total cost stands at approximately ₹25,000 crore.
On April 9, 2025, the Ministry of Home Affairs directed the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) to initiate the preparation of a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the expressway. The Ministry also called for a development roadmap for the Regional Ring Road (RRR) in northern Telangana.
This decision follows a high-level meeting held on February 3, 2025, chaired by Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan. The meeting brought together senior officials from 15 key departments—including roads and transport, steel, agriculture, petroleum, and railways. During the session, the Ministry also sought progress updates on pending initiatives under the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act and instructed the Chief Secretaries of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana to coordinate on a comprehensive development roadmap.
