Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, has approved the development of the 34-km Sikandarpur–Ballia stretch into a four-lane highway, a project expected to significantly improve regional connectivity.
According to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), the upgraded highway will ease traffic congestion and reduce travel time for commuters. At present, the journey between Sikandarpur and Ballia takes nearly two hours due to heavy traffic, but the new four-lane configuration is expected to cut travel time by at least 30 minutes. The project is also expected to stimulate economic activity across the region.
As part of the plan, NHAI will construct bypasses at Khejuri, Khadsara, and Sukhpura to reduce congestion and improve road safety. Ballia MP Ramashankar Rajbhar noted that the rising number of vehicles has led to frequent accidents and said the project would provide much-needed relief to commuters. Construction is expected to begin later this year and is anticipated to deliver substantial improvements to local infrastructure.
