Pune-Bengaluru Highway Bypass Widening: 30.6 km under construction

The expansion of the Pune-Bengaluru National Highway bypass, spanning from Narendra Cross to Gabbur, is currently underway, transforming the existing roadway into a six-lane thoroughfare. Nandi Highway Developers (NHDL), the initial constructor of the bypass, is set to conclude its tenure in May 2024, at which point the responsibility for further development will transition to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).

Government approval of the detailed project report (DPR) on March 25, 2023, marked a pivotal step forward for this ambitious venture. At an estimated cost of Rs 580 crore, the 30.6 km stretch is slated for widening, with a targeted completion date set for September 2025. The expansion plan encompasses the incorporation of 21 underpasses, a road over bridge (ROB), and a bridge spanning the railway track.

The construction strategy involves a phased approach, initiating with the widening of three tracks on one side before transitioning to the opposite side. To complement the expanded roadway, two-way service roads are in progress on either side of the bypass, creating a comprehensive infrastructure that includes six dedicated lanes and four mixed-traffic service roads.
