THDC India Limited plans to set up hydro-electric projects in Uttarakhand

In a pivotal move toward sustainable energy development, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has entrusted the responsibility for five hydro-electric projects totaling 1,719 MW to THDCIL-UJVNL Energy Company. This joint venture between THDC India and UJVNL is set to play a key role in shaping the energy landscape of Uttarakhand. The announcement took place during the Uttarakhand Energy Conclave on December 5, 2023, in Dehradun.

The allocated projects include the Mori Hanol hydroelectric project (63 MW) in Uttarkashi, Urthing Sobla hydro power project (280 MW) in Pithoragarh, Bogudiyar Sarkari Bhyol HE project (146 MW) in Pithoragarh, Pungarh-Matiyala pump storage plant (600 MW) in Tehri-Garhwal, and Jaspalgarh pump storage plant (630 MW) in Pauri-Garhwal.

This strategic initiative, with an investment of Rs 17,000 crore, is poised to make a substantial impact by contributing 1,719 MW of clean energy and creating around 900 job opportunities upon completion. The formal receipt of allotment letters by THDC from the Chief Minister underscores the government's commitment to fostering economic growth and sustainability.

The focus on clean energy is particularly noteworthy as it aligns with global objectives of achieving net-zero emissions. Uttarakhand's emphasis on environmentally responsible energy solutions reflects a forward-thinking approach to addressing climate change challenges and fostering a greener, more resilient future for the state.
