Union Minister Ajay Tamta has announced that highway projects worth ₹12,000 crore are underway in Manipur to strengthen the state’s infrastructure.
So far, 747 km of roads have been upgraded and blacktopped, including the conversion of several single-lane stretches into two-lane roads. The remaining 332 km is expected to be completed by FY27. Managed by NHIDCL and the state PWD, the projects are divided into 51 packages aimed at improving regional connectivity. Delays in 35 packages have occurred due to challenges such as land acquisition and forest clearances. Notably, the Imphal-Jiribam highway—a key route for the state—is slated for full upgrade by the end of the financial year.
Minister Tamta also highlighted other ongoing initiatives, including the Churachandpur-Tipaimukh road and India-Myanmar border roads, underscoring the government’s commitment to enhancing infrastructure and promoting economic growth in the region.
