The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has proposed a 104-kilometre greenfield, access-controlled expressway to link the upcoming Vadhvan Port in Palghar district with the Mumbai–Nagpur Samruddhi Mahamarg at Bharvir, near Igatpuri.
Designed to streamline freight movement from central Maharashtra to the west coast, the expressway will help decongest Mumbai’s existing transport corridors. "The alignment has been submitted to the state government for approval. Once approved, land acquisition will begin," a senior MSRDC official confirmed.
The expressway will begin at Bharvir Khurd and connect to National Highway 48 at Tawa village near Charoti. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will develop a connecting stretch from Charoti to the Vadhvan Port.
Tendering for the project will proceed only after substantial progress is made on the port itself. Once completed, the expressway is expected to reduce travel time between Igatpuri and Vadhvan Port to just 1 hour and 15 minutes.
To further enhance regional connectivity, the government is also evaluating proposals for a greenfield airport near Vadhvan Port, aiming to establish the area as a key logistics and transport hub.
