On October 23, 2025, Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah laid the foundation stone for the ₹805-crore Shantipura–Khodiyar GIDC six-lane highway project in Sanand, Gujarat, a major infrastructure initiative aimed at enhancing regional connectivity and supporting industrial growth.
The 28.8 km highway, to be developed by the Gujarat State Road Development Corporation (GSRDC), will help decongest the existing four-lane stretch, which currently carries over 43,000 vehicles daily. The project scope includes six-laning of the entire corridor, 22.73 km of service roads, widening of 13 small bridges, a six-lane elevated flyover, a three-lane right-turn flyover, and five underpasses at key junctions. In addition, 172 culverts will be constructed or upgraded to maintain seamless link road connectivity.
Once completed, the upgraded corridor is expected to reduce travel time, enhance fuel efficiency and road safety, and provide improved access to key industrial and logistics hubs such as Viramgam, Surendranagar, Shankheshwar, Radhanpur, and Patan. The foundation ceremony was attended by Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and several other dignitaries.
