Three-Packages Approach to Expedite Completion of Panjapur-Karur Bypass Road

The development of a new road project from Panjapur to Karur Bypass in Tamil Nadu has been strategically divided into three packages to expedite its completion. The estimated budget for this ambitious undertaking is approximately Rs 340 crore.

One significant component of this initiative involves the construction of an elevated carriageway along the Tiruchi-Dindigul highway near Karumandapam. This nine-meter-wide carriageway is slated to be laid on the eastern bund of the Koraiyar and the Kudamuriti rivers, passing through Kuzhumayi Amman Temple and Woraiyur. The primary objectives of this project include alleviating traffic congestion in Tiruchi and reinforcing the river banks to prevent breaches and flooding during the monsoon season.

The proposed road will commence from Panjapur, situated on the Tiruchi-Madurai highway, where a new integrated bus terminus (IBT) is currently under construction. From there, the road will extend to the Tiruchi-Karur highway, tracing along the eastern bunds of the Koraiyar and the Kudamuriti rivers. The anticipated length of this new roadway is approximately 12 kilometers, connecting the bus terminal to Karur Bypass.

Currently, the project is in the final stages of receiving clearance from the state government. The three packages allocated for the construction entail varying costs: Package-I is projected to require nearly Rs 87 crore, Package-II is estimated at Rs 80 crore, and Package-III primarily focuses on areas necessitating land acquisition.

Initially, the Tiruchi City Corporation (TCC) had submitted a detailed project report (DPR). However, subsequent modifications were made to the DPR, specifically adjusting the road alignment to minimize the necessity for land acquisition. These adjustments were made in accordance with recommendations from the Department of Municipal Administration and Water Supply. Additionally, separate tenders are anticipated to be issued for each individual package of the project.
