Twin Expressway Inauguration Set to Reshape Delhi's Traffic

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate two major infrastructure projects—the 76-km Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II) and the 29-km Dwarka Expressway—on August 17, 2025, marking a significant milestone in efforts to decongest the National Capital Region (NCR).

These access-controlled expressways will offer seamless connectivity from Chandigarh to Indira Gandhi International Airport, Gurugram, and Jaipur, easing traffic pressure on Delhi’s Ring Road and key arterial routes.

The ₹9,000 crore Dwarka Expressway, built in four phases, and the ₹7,716 crore UER-II, developed across five packages, are now fully completed. PM Modi had previously inaugurated the Haryana stretch of the Dwarka Expressway in March 2024.

Planned under the Delhi Master Plan 2021, UER-II begins at Alipur on NH-44 and connects NH-9 and NH-48, with 54.2 km falling within Delhi and 21.5 km in Haryana. It links directly to the upcoming India International Convention Centre in Dwarka and features eight lanes, three-lane service roads, four multi-level interchanges, major underpasses, and grade-separated junctions.

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has also invited bids for implementing multi-lane, free-flow tolling along the corridor to ensure efficient traffic movement.
