Vizag-Bhogapuram in Top Gear: ₹175 Crore Roadmap Revealed

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), in coordination with the Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA), is undertaking multiple road infrastructure projects to improve connectivity to the upcoming Bhogapuram International Airport.

These road developments are aimed at easing traffic congestion, particularly during peak travel hours. NHAI has commenced construction of a major interchange at Savaravalli, with completion targeted by May or June. As part of its Master Plan, VMRDA has identified 15 major road projects, of which seven are critical for strengthening airport access. These key road works, with a combined investment of ₹175 crore, are also expected to be completed by May. In addition, important stretches such as Gambheeram Road and Divis Road are being upgraded to further streamline travel.

To enhance long-term regional connectivity, the state government has instructed NHAI to plan a six-lane coastal highway linking Visakhapatnam with the airport. A Metro-cum-double-decker flyover is also under consideration to reduce urban traffic congestion and improve mobility within the city.
