Jindal India Renewable Energy (JIRE) has received a Letter of Acceptance (LoA) from NHPC for a 300 MW solar-plus-storage project.
The project will be developed on a build-own-operate (BOO) basis and must be completed within 24 months of signing the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA). It is part of NHPC's 1,200 MW inter-state transmission system (ISTS)-connected solar initiative, which includes a 600 MW/1,200 MWh energy storage system (ESS).
The ESS will enable 600 MW of battery power to provide two hours of backup, ensuring a total output of 1,200 MW. Under a 25-year agreement, NHPC will purchase the solar power from JIRE for distribution to state utilities and other buyers.
JIRE, a subsidiary of the BC Jindal Group, has expanded beyond its origins in steel pipe manufacturing to become a key player in the renewable energy sector.
