Engie Powers Ahead with 400 MW Solar Project in Gujarat

Engie, a prominent provider of low-carbon energy solutions, has initiated the development of a substantial 400 MW solar project in Gujarat. The project was acquired through an award from Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam (GUVNL) as part of the 750 MW GUVNL Phase (XVI) auction process.

Estimated to require an investment of approximately USD 200 million, this solar venture aims to produce 907 GWh of electricity while significantly curbing carbon emissions, preventing the release of an estimated 774,112 tonnes of carbon annually. Expected to be operational by the second quarter of 2024, the project will substantially contribute to Gujarat's renewable energy landscape.

Engie secured its position as the preferred bidder by signing a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with GUVNL, demonstrating its unwavering dedication to bolstering its renewable energy portfolio. Once completed, this initiative will bolster Engie's cumulative renewable portfolio in India to 1.5 GW, encompassing 18 projects spread across seven states. This achievement underlines Engie's commitment to bolstering India's energy transition efforts, aligning with the nation's ambitious plan to achieve 500 GW of clean energy by 2030.

Moreover, this project signifies Engie's third renewable energy venture in the region, following the successful commissioning of a 200 MW solar project in Raghanesda in August 2021 and a 29.9 MW wind project in Tithva in 2019. The steady expansion of Engie's renewable initiatives underscores its dedication to fostering sustainable energy solutions in Gujarat and beyond.
