India’s cumulative wind power capacity exceeded the 50 GW mark in March 2025, marking a significant milestone in the country’s renewable energy journey.
This growth was fueled by the addition of 4,151 MW of wind power capacity in FY25, making it the second-largest yearly increase, following the 5,400 MW added in 2016-17.
Karnataka emerged as the leader in capacity additions, contributing 1,331.49 MW, which brought its total wind power capacity to 7,351 MW. Tamil Nadu followed closely with 1,136.37 MW added, raising its cumulative wind capacity to 11,739 MW and solidifying its position as one of the leading states in wind energy.
Gujarat continued to hold the top spot for the highest total installed wind capacity, with 12,677 MW, including 954.76 MW added during the year. With robust policy support and growing awareness of sustainable energy, the wind sector is expected to experience rapid expansion in the years ahead.
