IndiGo and AAI Prepare for Navi Mumbai Airport Commercial Launch

Airlines and key government agencies—including the Airports Authority of India (AAI) and the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF)—are in the final stages of readiness for the commercial launch of the Navi Mumbai International Airport.

The airport is scheduled for formal inauguration on September 30, with flight operations expected to begin a few weeks later, following a thorough security clearance and operational checks.

Airlines are actively preparing for the rollout. IndiGo, India’s largest carrier, has seen around 150 ground staff apply for internal transfers to the new airport. These employees will be prioritized over external candidates, with final staffing levels determined by the scale of initial operations. The airline also plans to establish dedicated crew and pilot bases at Navi Mumbai to support its upcoming flight schedules.
