Mangaluru International Airport Ltd has unveiled a striking granite statue of Yakshagana in its departure area, as part of its ongoing efforts to integrate local culture into the airport experience and offer travelers a glimpse into the region’s artistic heritage.
The statue depicts a youthful Yakshagana performer with a serene expression, symbolizing the grace and depth of this traditional folk art form known for its elaborate costumes, dynamic dance, and mythological storytelling.
Standing 10.25 feet tall atop a 3-foot pedestal and weighing nearly four tonnes, the sculpture serves as a tribute to the vibrant cultural identity of coastal Karnataka.
The artwork was created by Himanshu Kumar, a Bihar-born sculptor now based in Karnataka, along with his team. Remarkably, the piece was completed in just 64 days.
