Doubling Down: Mahindra Targets 1.32 Lakh Monthly SUVs by FY31

Mahindra & Mahindra has outlined a strategic capacity expansion plan aimed at nearly doubling its monthly SUV output from the current 72,000 units to approximately 1.32 lakh units by FY31. This capital deployment reflects the company’s confidence in long-term market demand, bolstered by its expanding electric vehicle portfolio and ambitious international export strategy.

To achieve this target, the automaker will implement a phased rollout: initial debottlenecking across active plants will raise monthly capacity to 82,000 units, followed by an expansion of the Chakan plant to achieve 92,000 units. The final surge to 1.32 lakh units will be driven by further debottlenecking and a greenfield facility in Nagpur. Although elevated commodity prices are anticipated to impact input costs through the September quarter, management views these headwinds as temporary and remains focused on securing its long-term market leadership.
