Karnataka Agriculture Minister N. Chaluvarayaswamy inaugurated the Electric Tractor Mela on Friday at the College of Horticulture, University of Horticultural Sciences campus in Bengaluru.
Organised by the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) in partnership with Villgro and Moonrider, and facilitated by the Centre of Excellence for Farmer-Producer Organizations (CoE-FPO), the event brought together more than 200 farmers representing 100 FPOs from across Karnataka.
During the mela, NRDC released a report titled “Powering Agriculture: Unlocking the Potential of Electric Tractors in India.” The report highlights electric tractors as a transformative solution—offering up to 80% lower operating costs, nearly 50% reduced total cost of ownership, and considerable health benefits through the elimination of heat, noise, and harmful diesel emissions. It also outlines a policy roadmap for the Centre and state governments to accelerate large-scale adoption of electric tractors.
