India’s largest car manufacturer, Maruti Suzuki, has officially commenced commercial production at its second plant within the Kharkhoda manufacturing facility in Haryana.
The company currently manufactures the popular compact SUV Maruti Suzuki Brezza and the mid-size SUV Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara at the Kharkhoda site. The foundation stone for the facility was laid by Narendra Modi in August 2022. Once fully operational, the Kharkhoda facility is expected to become one of Suzuki’s largest four-wheeler manufacturing hubs globally, with an annual production capacity of 10 lakh vehicles.
Following the commissioning of the second plant, the Kharkhoda facility now has a combined annual production capacity of 5 lakh units. Maruti Suzuki currently operates manufacturing facilities across four major domestic locations: Gurugram (5 lakh units annually), Manesar (9 lakh units), Hansalpur in Gujarat (7.5 lakh units), and Kharkhoda (5 lakh units).
The latest expansion comes amid increasing pressure across the automotive supply chain, with MSME auto component suppliers seeking support from automakers to offset rising labour and input costs.
