MATTER, an electric mobility technology company, has partnered with Niron Magnetics to integrate rare-earth-free Iron Nitride magnet technology into its electric motorbike platforms.
The collaboration was unveiled at CES 2026 with the presentation of a prototype that combines MATTER’s liquid-cooled powertrains, in-house gearboxes, and vehicle systems with Niron Magnetics’ Iron Nitride magnets. The initiative aims to reduce the electric vehicle industry’s dependence on rare earth materials, addressing both environmental concerns and supply-chain constraints.
According to the companies, the new magnet technology is expected to improve torque delivery, efficiency across a wide range of speeds, acceleration, and overall riding range in MATTER’s electric motorbikes.
The prototype features Variable Flux Motors, designed to deliver higher low-speed torque and improved high-speed efficiency, enabling quicker acceleration and better performance in urban riding conditions. “Working with MATTER allows us to demonstrate how Iron Nitride can unlock new frontiers in high-performance e-mobility,” said Jonathan Rowntree, CEO of Niron Magnetics.
