Ola’s New Heartbeat: The In-House LFP Cell Arrives

Ola Electric Mobility Ltd has announced the development of an in-house Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery cell in the 46100 cylindrical format, with plans to begin deploying it in its electric vehicles from the next quarter. The move is part of the company’s broader strategy to lower costs and accelerate EV adoption in India.

The announcement, made through regulatory filings, marks a transition from Nickel Manganese Cobalt battery chemistry to Lithium Iron Phosphate battery chemistry. LFP batteries are widely regarded as safer, more durable, and better suited for high-temperature conditions, making them particularly relevant for the Indian market.

Deepak Rastogi confirmed that the new battery cells are ready for commercial rollout. He added that the company is building on learnings from its earlier battery initiative, where thousands of vehicles powered by its 4680-format “Bharat Cells” have already logged millions of kilometres on Indian roads.
