The Coimbatore Corporation is expected to commence commercial operations of its 24×7 water supply project by February 2026. While the main feeder pipeline has been completed, distribution pipelines along a 30 km stretch are yet to be laid.
According to Corporation Commissioner M. Sivaguru Prabakaran, the project will be ready once 1.35 lakh household service connections are provided, against a target of 1.5 lakh connections. Approximately one lakh connections have already been installed. Trial runs are underway, with 31 of the 32 overhead tanks filled; only the Nanjundapuram tank remains pending. Despite delays in pipeline installation in areas such as Townhall and Gandhi Maa Nagar, the Corporation aims to complete the remaining work before the elections.
Launched in 2019, the project faced delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic and labour shortages. With a total investment of ₹646.71 crore, the project is now expected to be fully operational by the end of February, ensuring uninterrupted drinking water supply to all 60 wards of the city.
