A City on the Rise: Shah's ₹1,550 Crore Investment in Ahmedabad

On May 18, 2025, Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for a series of development projects valued at over ₹1,550 crore under the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC). The event took place in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, in the presence of Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and other dignitaries.

The program marked the inauguration of 31 completed projects and the foundation-laying for 60 new ones. Additionally, more than 1,070 families received housing across three residential complexes.

Among the major infrastructure initiatives were the Pallav Overbridge, expected to ease traffic congestion for over 1.5 lakh vehicles daily, and the ₹237 crore Sabarmati-Chandkheda railway overbridge. Key utility upgrades included the development of drainage systems and the construction of water distribution stations at Vatva, Nikol, and Vasna, totaling ₹126 crore. A decorative lighting project along the Sabarmati River, costing ₹131 crore, was also launched. Moreover, sports facilities developed under several overbridges came at an investment of ₹38 crore.

In a parallel effort to promote employment and self-reliance, the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) distributed equipment such as electronic potter’s wheels, sewing machines, Kachi Ghani oil extraction units, and incense stick making machines to benefit over 1,000 individuals.

These initiatives collectively aim to strengthen Ahmedabad’s urban infrastructure, improve public amenities, and foster livelihood opportunities for residents.
