A Dam Good Investment Securing Water for Generations in Tamil Nadu

The Dam Rehabilitation Unit Project's Phase-II in Coimbatore is led by TANGEDCO. This phase strengthens regional dams via structural improvements and institutional reforms to improve dam safety.

The project upgrades dam infrastructure such spillways, gates, valves, canal systems, and monitoring systems to improve safety and performance. Additionally, TANGEDCO is growing capacity, creating comprehensive safety manuals, and adopting modern monitoring technology to improve dam safety management. Innovative finance strategies to support dam operations and maintenance are one of the project's highlights. The initiative also seeks private funding to aid restoration and sustainability.

Water security for agriculture, electricity production, and home usage will improve with this project. It reduces dam collapse risk, improving public safety and infrastructure trust. Construction and engineering jobs from the project are expected to boost the region's economy.

After Phase I, the project's targeted dams and implementation details are awaited in Phase II. TANGEDCO will soon issue project tenders, boosting dam safety in the area.This project is part of the World Bank-funded Dam Rehabilitation and Improvement Project (DRIP) to improve dam safety and performance in India.

As on December 2023, The project is currently in the stage of being approved currently awaiting approval from the government.
