A Lifeline for Lakes: Phase-2 of the KC Valley Project

On 4th September 2025, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah virtually inaugurated Phase-2 of the Koramangala–Challaghatta (KC) Valley project, aimed at rejuvenating 30 lakes in Kolar taluk through the supply of treated water from the Lakshmisagar Pump House.

Originally launched during his earlier tenure (2013–2018), the project is designed to recharge groundwater across Kolar, Chikkaballapura, and Bengaluru Rural districts by pumping treated wastewater into more than 250 lakes. “While this water is not intended for drinking, it has significantly improved groundwater levels in the regions where lakes have already been replenished,” the CM stated.

The ongoing Phase-2, expected to be completed by December 2025, will expand the reach to 272 lakes. Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar highlighted the project's positive impact on groundwater recharge and urged local MLAs to increase public awareness.

Minister N.S. Boseraju added that nine new pumping stations are planned as part of the expansion, with a budget allocation of ₹446 crore. The KC Valley initiative is a key component of the state’s strategy to promote sustainable water management and mitigate the effects of groundwater depletion in drought-prone areas.
