TN Rising: Rolls-Royce Announces Major Expansion in Tamil Nadu

The Chief Minister M.K. Stalin-led DMK government has announced that global aerospace and defence leader Rolls-Royce has expressed strong interest in expanding its operations in Tamil Nadu.

As part of its proposed expansion, the UK-based company plans to establish:

A Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facility, A research and training centre, A significant scale-up of its IAMPL joint venture operations in Hosur

The Tamil Nadu Industries Department noted that this development reinforces the state’s strategic importance, stating, “With Tamil Nadu being home to one of India’s two Defence Industrial Corridors, this engagement with Rolls-Royce underscores the state’s potential as a hub for advanced aerospace manufacturing.”

A global leader in high-performance jet engines for both civilian and defence applications, Rolls-Royce’s expansion is expected to further integrate Tamil Nadu into the global aerospace supply chain.

The announcement comes as part of CM Stalin’s ongoing 'TN Rising' European tour, which has already yielded multiple investment commitments across defence, aerospace, renewable energy, textiles, and design technology.

Wilson Power & Distribution to invest ₹300 crore in a transformer manufacturing plant, creating 543 jobs

Britannia RFID Technologies to invest ₹520 crore in RFID tag units at Tiruppur and Namakkal, generating 550 employment opportunities

These developments signal Tamil Nadu’s rising profile as a preferred destination for high-tech, export-oriented industries, driven by proactive policy, strong infrastructure, and global investor confidence.
