The Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA) in Chintoor, along with authorities from the Polavaram Irrigation Project Land Acquisition unit, will hold consultations with public representatives and members of the Panchayats Extension to Scheduled Areas (PESA) Committee. These discussions involve 30 villages expected to be submerged due to the Polavaram project.
The focus will be on "land-to-land" compensation and the benefits guaranteed under the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2023. According to ITDA Project Officer Apoorva Bharat, the first round of Grama Sabhas has already been completed in the affected villages.
The second round of talks is set to take place at the ITDA office in Chintoor, in the Alluri Sitarama Raju district of Andhra Pradesh. These villages fall under the PESA Act of 1996, which provides governance rights to tribal communities under the Fifth Schedule of the Constitution. The aim of the consultations is to ensure a fair and transparent process for compensation and rehabilitation, in line with constitutional safeguards and legal entitlements.
