Industries in Butibori have begun receiving piped natural gas (PNG) following the operational launch of GAIL’s Mumbai–Nagpur pipeline along the Samruddhi Expressway on 28 December 2025. Haryana City Gas Distribution (HCG), which holds the eight-year city gas distribution contract for Nagpur district, has started supplying gas to industrial units. Domestic PNG connections are planned next, beginning with the CIDCO colony.
The development was marked by the inauguration of GAIL’s city gas station and mother station by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, highlighting a major advancement in the region’s energy infrastructure. HCG Nagpur President Deepak Sawant stated that the immediate focus is to extend PNG connections for domestic cooking to residents of CIDCO Colony. In subsequent phases, the network will expand to Jamtha, Wanadongri, Hingna, Kapsi, Wadi, and Ambazari.
At present, industrial gas supply stands at 80,000 standard cubic metres (SCM) per day and is expected to increase to one lakh SCM by March. Domestic PNG connections across the district could eventually reach nearly one lakh households.
