A New Era for Wind Power Testing: ZF's Coimbatore Facility

ZF Wind Power, a division of the global ZF Group, has inaugurated India’s largest wind gearbox and powertrain test facility — a 13.2 MW test rig in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu.

This cutting-edge facility enables real-time simulation of dynamic load conditions, including torque reversal cycles, to validate next-generation wind technologies. It plays a key role in improving the reliability and performance of wind energy systems and supports both customer and certification requirements.

The new rig enhances ZF’s end-to-end capabilities — from R&D to validation — for domestic and international markets. ZF also plans to add a cold chamber test facility to further expand its testing portfolio. To date, ZF Wind Power India has delivered 60 GW of gearbox capacity from Coimbatore, reinforcing its global footprint in renewable energy.
