Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to lay the foundation stone for a 2,400 MW expansion of the Nabinagar Super Thermal Power Project (Stage-II) during a public rally in Bikramganj, Rohtas district, on 30 May, as announced by Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary.
The expansion project will add three ultra-supercritical units of 800 MW each, at an estimated cost of ₹29,947 crore. Upon completion, the total capacity of the plant will increase from 1,980 MW (3x660 MW) to 4,380 MW, making it Bihar’s first ultra-supercritical power plant and NTPC’s second-largest power generation facility nationwide.
Bihar is expected to receive 1,500 MW from the new capacity, significantly strengthening the state's electricity supply.
This project represents a major step forward in Bihar’s power infrastructure development and supports India’s broader objectives of enhancing energy security and transitioning to more efficient, cleaner power technologies.
