A New Standard for Construction Worker Housing by Rustomjee

The Rustomjee Group has introduced a dedicated 35,000 sq. ft. labour housing facility at its Rustomjee Urbania construction site in Thane, designed to accommodate 500 workers in 84 well-ventilated 10x10 ft. rooms, each housing up to six occupants.

Prioritizing holistic well-being, the facility includes 29 toilets, nine urinals, and 15 bathing stations. A UV-based water purification system and a canteen with 42 double-burner stoves support clean cooking and dining for up to 280 workers at once.

To foster community living, the centre offers an open gym, sports zones, a projector room, full-time doctor’s clinic, maternity room, barber shop, crèche, retail outlets, and an entertainment room. Sustainability features include a 40 KLD sewage treatment plant for water recycling and a 200 KG organic waste composter for kitchen waste management. Fire safety is ensured with a comprehensive network featuring 13-yard hydrants, 900 LPM fire pumps, and sprinklers in critical areas.

“This initiative reinforces our long-term vision to raise the standard of worker welfare in the real estate industry. We hope this sets a benchmark for inclusive and responsible development,” said Boman Rustom Irani, Chairman & Managing Director, Rustomjee Group.
