A New Titan Rises: Ramayapatnam Port Nears Completion

Construction of the Ramayapatnam Port is progressing at a rapid pace, with nearly 80 per cent of Phase-I works completed.

Located in Prakasam district, the deep-sea port is expected to drive industrial growth in both Prakasam and Nellore districts while serving as an alternative maritime hub to Visakhapatnam and Chennai. The port is being developed by the Andhra Pradesh Maritime Board at an estimated cost of Rs 4,922 crore across 2,000 acres near Chevuru in Gudluru mandal. Once operational, it will have the capacity to handle millions of tonnes of cargo annually.

Key infrastructure components, including two breakwater berths, a link road, and around 20 per cent of the railway line, have already been completed. District Collector Rajababu reviewed the status of land acquisition and construction works and expressed satisfaction with the project’s progress.

The District Collector confirmed that Phase-I of the port is scheduled for completion by April this year and underscored the strategic importance of the proposed BPCL refinery associated with the port, stating that the Ramayapatnam Port and BPCL projects are crucial for the region’s overall development.
