Apple supplier Jabil is preparing to expand production of AirPods enclosures in India, with plans centered on a proposed second facility in Tiruchirappalli (Trichy), Tamil Nadu.
This move is part of Apple’s larger strategy to reduce its dependence on China by diversifying its manufacturing footprint. Jabil currently produces plastic casings for AirPods at its plant in Pune, Maharashtra, and is now exploring the Trichy site to significantly increase output for Apple. However, construction of the new facility has yet to begin.
Executives from the U.S.-based firm recently met with Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin in Chennai, followed by a site visit to Trichy. While AirPods component manufacturing is still emerging in India, industry experts view it as a growing opportunity. Jabil’s early investment in this space may give it a competitive edge as demand for localized production rises.
