The much-anticipated Anand Vihar Rapid Rail Transit System (RRTS) station is nearing completion, with trial runs for the 6.5-km stretch from Sahibabad to Anand Vihar set to begin in November. This development marks a significant milestone for the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS corridor, which will revolutionize commuting in the National Capital Region (NCR).
Anand Vihar, a critical transit hub in Delhi, will host an RRTS station designed for seamless connectivity with Delhi Metro, Indian Railways, and various bus networks. The station will be the only underground RRTS station, positioned one level below ground, allowing for easy transfers between different modes of transport. The station's unique design includes dedicated pick-up and drop-off points for vehicles and three bridges over the Ghazipur drain, enhancing accessibility for commuters.
The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) has reported rapid progress in the project, with track laying, overhead electrification, and signaling work moving swiftly. The 6.5-km stretch set for trial runs is part of a larger 82-km corridor that will eventually connect Delhi to Meerut, with travel times under an hour. The Anand Vihar station will be a crucial node, linking the Metro’s Blue and Pink Lines, the Swami Vivekananda ISBT, DTC inter-state bus terminal, UPSRTC Kaushambi bus stand, and Anand Vihar railway station.
Commuters can look forward to a streamlined experience at the Anand Vihar station, which is designed to minimize congestion. Separate entry and exit routes, as well as a foot overbridge connecting the Metro Complex to Chaudhary Charan Singh Marg, will ensure smooth movement. The station will also be equipped with lifts, stairs, and escalators, making it accessible to all passengers.
Currently, the Namo Bharat train operates on a 42-km stretch from Sahibabad to Meerut South, covering nine stations. With the completion of the entire corridor by June 2025, the RRTS is poised to significantly reduce travel times and improve the daily commute for thousands of passengers in the NCR.
