Andhra Pradesh Goes Green: ₹22,302 Crore Invested in Renewable Energy

The Andhra Pradesh Cabinet, under the leadership of Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, has approved significant investment proposals amounting to ₹22,302 crore for green energy projects sanctioned by the State Investment Promotion Board (SIPB). Among the sanctioned projects is a proposal to provide a bank guarantee of ₹1,500 crore for loans to power distribution companies (Discoms) in the state.

During the Amaravati Cabinet meeting, it was announced that the International Baccalaureate (IB), a Geneva-based educational organization, would be engaged as a partner to conduct training programs for teachers in government schools and staff of the education department. This training will specifically focus on equipping educators to handle the IB syllabus, set to be introduced from the academic year 2025-26.

In addition to this, the Cabinet made several key decisions, including raising the retirement age of non-teaching staff in universities and higher educational institutions to 62, filling 27 vacancies in the Legislature secretariat, and appointing Secretaries for all 13,171 Village Panchayats with a population exceeding 500 people.

The Cabinet also approved the implementation of the welfare calendar for February, allocating ₹5,060.04 crore towards the fourth tranche of the YSR Cheyutha scheme. This initiative is expected to benefit 26,98,931 SC, ST, BC, and minority women aged between 45 to 60 years. Additionally, the Cabinet sanctioned a proposal to exempt 5,376 families displaced due to the Pulichintala Project from paying registration and user charges amounting to ₹60 crore on house sites allotted under the Navaratnalu-Pedalandariki Illu initiative.

Looking ahead, the state government has announced plans to conduct a three-day Budget session of the Assembly starting from February 5, 2024, with the vote-on-account budget expected to be presented on the first day. Furthermore, the Cabinet has decided to establish the AP Legislature Institute of Legislative Study and Training to provide training to newly elected legislature members. Additionally, house sites have been allotted to prominent individuals in the sports arena.
