Ashok Leyland’s ₹1,000 Crore Green Mobility Power Play

Ashok Leyland is doubling down on its green mobility roadmap, committing ₹800 to ₹1,000 crore in FY27 to drive commercial deployment across electric mobility, alternate fuels, and battery manufacturing. Building on the momentum of its previous ~₹1,050 crore investment, the commercial vehicle giant is pivoting from setting up basic infrastructure toward aggressive market expansion.

A centerpiece of this strategy is a new battery-pack manufacturing plant in Tamil Nadu, designed to de-risk its EV supply chain. Meanwhile, its dedicated subsidiary, Ohm Mobility, is tackling the cost barrier to EV adoption. By exploring innovative Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) frameworks, Ashok Leyland aims to convert heavy upfront battery investments into operational costs tied to actual vehicle usage. Additionally, the company is evaluating quick-turnaround battery-swapping networks tailored for high-intensity commercial hubs like ports and mining sites.
