Assam Enters the Shipbuilding Era with a 75-Crore Green Facility

Assam is charting a new course into the maritime industry by building its very first shipyard at Dharapur, close to the Guwahati airport. Spearheaded by "Assam Shipyard"—a joint venture between the Assam Inland Waterways Company and Bharat A to Z—this 75-crore initiative aims to kick off operations by January 2027. Designed as a modern, green facility, the shipyard will integrate AI technology alongside sustainable energy sources like solar and hydrogen. Prioritizing ecological balance with thorough environmental assessments, the project is set to transform Assam into a regional marine hub by building everything from ships to jetties while training local talent for high-tech jobs.
