On July 27, the foundation stone was laid for a Rs 81-crore water supply project at the old water treatment plant site on Longai Road in Assam. The project aims to provide safe, round-the-clock drinking water to residents across 27 municipal wards.
This initiative marks a major step forward in strengthening urban infrastructure under the Jal Jeevan Mission. The ceremony was led by Minister Jayanta Mallabaruah, with Barak Valley ministers Krishnendu Paul and Kaushik Rai, former Rajya Sabha MP Mission Ranjan Das, the District Commissioner, and other key officials in attendance.
Minister Mallabaruah announced that the project is expected to be completed within three years, ensuring continuous access to clean water for a significant urban population. He also highlighted progress under the Jal Jeevan Mission, noting that out of 29,000 planned projects across the state, 14,000 have been completed. However, he acknowledged that some projects are facing delays due to issues with fund disbursement.
