Mumbai's Madh-Versova Flyover Gets Green Light

The long-awaited cable-stayed flyover connecting Madh Island and Versova in Mumbai has cleared a key hurdle, with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) securing approval from the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.

Spanning 2.06 km across the Madh Creek, the flyover is expected to reduce travel time between the two areas from 45–60 minutes during peak hours to just five minutes. Currently, the only connection is via a jetty. The project aims to ease congestion and provide seamless, year-round connectivity.

Tenders were floated in March last year, with work orders issued in September. Due to rising costs of labour, materials, and GST, the project’s final cost has been revised to Rs 2,395 crore—33% higher than the initial estimate of Rs 1,800 crore.

“The flyover will pass over Marve Creek, which lies within the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ),” a BMC official noted. Construction is expected to begin by the end of the year and be completed within three years.
