Minister of Road Transport & Highways, Nitin Gadkari, has announced a Rs 3 lakh crore investment in Assam to develop national highways to international standards, comparable to those in the US.
Speaking in the Rajya Sabha, he assured that his ministry has sufficient funds for these road projects, reaffirming the government’s commitment to boosting infrastructure in the Northeast.
Key projects include the Guwahati Ring Road, expected to be completed by December 2027 at a cost of Rs 5,800 crore, a Rs 12,000-crore tunnel under the Brahmaputra in Dibrugarh, and an elevated highway over Kaziranga National Park.
The Minister emphasized the transformative impact of these initiatives on Assam’s economy, job creation, and connectivity. While the elevated highway project is awaiting Cabinet approval, he assured that funding will not be a hurdle.
