Bhubaneswar's ₹398 Cr Rail Makeover Nears Completion!

The Bhubaneswar railway station is on track for a major transformation, with over 80% of the ₹398 crore redevelopment project already completed. The upgraded station is slated for inauguration in December 2025, Union Minister of State for Railways and Jal Shakti V. Somanna announced during a recent visit to Odisha.

The revamped station will feature a five-storey terminal with airport-style amenities, including executive lounges, landscaped zones, and commercial spaces. Construction is progressing on both sides of the station to ensure smooth integration and better commuter flow.

This redevelopment is part of the Indian Railways' broader initiative to modernise 59 stations across Odisha at a total investment of ₹2,379 crore. Key station upgrades under this plan include:

Sambalpur – ₹348 crore, Cuttack – ₹303 crore, Balasore – ₹197 crore, Puri – ₹177 crore

In a significant funding boost, Odisha received ₹10,599 crore in the 2025–26 railway budget—a 12.5-fold increase compared to the average annual allocation of ₹838 crore from 2009 to 2014.

Other notable achievements in the state include:

4,046 km of new rail lines, 522 road and rail over/under bridges (ROBs/RUBs), 100% railway electrification, 6 Vande Bharat trains now connecting 17 districts
