The Centre has approved a Rs 459 crore airport project in Bihta, located on the outskirts of Patna, marking a significant boost to Bihar’s infrastructure development.
This airport, situated 25 km from Patna, will be developed by the Russian firm Joint Stock Company “Industrial Association,” following a letter of intent from the Airport Authority of India (AAI). The project will feature an integrated terminal, utility building, elevated road, and advanced IT systems. It aims to complement the existing Jay Prakash Narayan International Airport by accommodating larger aircraft, with completion slated for 2026.
The Bihar government has secured 108 acres of land for the airport, which currently houses an Indian Air Force base. The infrastructure development also includes the construction of an elevated road linking Danapur to Bihta. Additionally, plans for greenfield airports in Rajgir, Bhagalpur, and a new international airport near Patna are progressing.
