The Delhi government has launched a redevelopment initiative to convert Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) bus depots into commercial hubs, beginning with the Banda Bahadur Marg and Sukhdev Vihar depots. These sites are projected to generate revenues of ₹1,858 crore and ₹758 crore, respectively.
The plan involves constructing multi-level depots featuring parking facilities, office space rentals, advertising opportunities, and mobile tower installations. Notably, the project requires no financial investment from DTC or the government and is designed to be self-sustaining. Completion is expected within 21 to 28 months.
As part of a broader push to modernize public transport and enhance last-mile connectivity, the government also launched the Delhi Electric Vehicles Initiative (DEVI) on 2 May 2025. This includes the introduction of mini electric buses to gradually replace aging diesel buses with environmentally friendly alternatives.
The commercialisation of depot spaces is expected to improve urban infrastructure, strengthen DTC’s financial health, and support a more efficient and sustainable transport system across Delhi.
