The Central Government has approved the establishment of 11 integrated Aquaparks across India to boost fish production, as announced by Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Rajiv Ranjan Singh. Among these, four Aquaparks will be set up in the northeastern states of Assam, Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh, and Nagaland.
In a virtual ceremony, the Minister laid the foundation stone for the Aquapark in Tripura’s Unakoti district and inaugurated a fish festival. He highlighted the region’s significant demand for fish and its strong potential to become self-reliant in both fish and milk production. The Aquapark, to be constructed in Kailashahar at a cost of ₹42.4 crore under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY), will function as a comprehensive hub for fish production, processing, and marketing, supporting the entire value chain.
Designed to operate on a hub-and-spoke model, these Aquaparks will house hatcheries, feed mills, cold storage units, training centers, and marketing infrastructure under one roof. The initiative aims to promote value chain development, foster innovation, and generate livelihoods—especially for youth and women. Notably, Tripura, where per capita fish consumption exceeds 29 kg annually, has benefited from ₹319 crore worth of projects under PMMSY and the Blue Revolution in the past decade.
