Construction of a new flyover at Cheruvannur near Feroke in Kozhikode officially began on May 18, 2025, with an inauguration by Minister for Public Works, PA Mohamed Riyas.
Developed under the City Road Improvement Project, the flyover is designed to ease traffic congestion at the busy Cheruvannur junction. The project, estimated at ₹89 crore, includes ₹30 crore allocated for land acquisition. The structure will span 700 meters in length and 16 meters in width, with 5.5-meter-wide service roads on both sides.
A standout feature of the project is the planned development of the area beneath the flyover into playgrounds and gardens, offering both aesthetic and recreational value to the community.
The project is being executed by the Uralungal Labour Contractors’ Cooperative Society and supervised by the Kerala Road Fund Board. Completion is targeted by the end of 2025.
During the inauguration, the Minister also announced that work on the Meenchanda–Areekkad flyover would commence soon, underscoring the state's broader commitment to urban infrastructure development. He noted that in Kozhikode district alone, 16 new bridges have been completed, six have been renovated, and 17 more are currently under construction—reflecting a focused effort on maximizing the utility of spaces under bridges across the state.
