The Tamil Nadu government will develop a new integrated city near Chennai, spanning 2,000 acres, as announced by Finance Minister Thangam Thennarasu on 14 March 2025.
With Tamil Nadu experiencing rapid urbanization, experts advocate for planned urban expansion through integrated cities rather than unstructured growth. In response, the upcoming ‘Global City’ project aims to provide world-class infrastructure and facilities.
This new city will feature IT parks, fintech trade zones, R&D centers, high-tech companies, banking and insurance hubs, shopping complexes, trade centers, and conference halls. Both public and private sectors will invest in top-tier educational and healthcare institutions.
Residential areas will include multi-storeyed housing for various income groups, an extensive road network, green energy systems, IT infrastructure, co-working spaces, and recreational zones such as urban squares and parks. To ensure seamless connectivity with Chennai, the plan includes express bus services, metro rail extensions, and well-structured roadways. The first phase of this ambitious project, spearheaded by TIDCO, will commence soon.
