"Codissia to Gadkari: Speed Up Western Tamil Nadu Highways!"

The Coimbatore District Small Industries Association (Codissia) has formally appealed to Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, to accelerate key highway infrastructure projects in western Tamil Nadu.

In a letter to the Minister, Codissia underscored the urgent need for implementing the long-pending Coimbatore Eastern Ring Road. “The Coimbatore Eastern Bypass Road, a crucial project aimed at easing the city's chronic traffic congestion, has been awaiting approval from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) since 2018,” stated Codissia President M. Karthikeyan.

The Association pointed out that Coimbatore suffers from severe traffic bottlenecks, primarily due to the convergence of six national highways within the city. They argued that the proposed bypass would greatly ease traffic flow and reduce congestion in urban areas.

Codissia also called for the expansion of the Chengapalli–Salem highway into a six-lane expressway. Citing the high volume of truck and bus traffic between Coimbatore and Kerala, the Association noted that the 95-kilometer stretch is in urgent need of capacity enhancement.

Expressing concern over the slow progress of highway development in western Tamil Nadu, Codissia contrasted it with the faster rollout of similar projects in other parts of the country. The Association urged the Minister to prioritize these long-overdue infrastructure initiatives, highlighting their critical role in supporting the region’s economic development and industrial growth.
