Richard Vanlalhmangaiha, Mizoram’s sole Lok Sabha MP, has urged the central government to accelerate the construction and repair of national highways across the state—especially those under the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL)—before the onset of the monsoon. The appeal was made during a meeting with Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways, Ajay Tamta, in New Delhi on Wednesday, according to an official statement.
The MP emphasized the urgent need to prioritize improvements on key routes, particularly National Highway-6/306, which connects Vairengte and Sairang and serves as a lifeline between Aizawl and Silchar. He also advocated for converting highways to concrete pavements to better withstand Mizoram’s heavy rainfall.
Minister Tamta reportedly responded positively and assured central support to address these critical infrastructure issues.
