Coimbatore's New Jewel: Semmozhi Park Set to Open!

Coimbatore is set to welcome a major recreational hub as Semmozhi Park nears completion. Spread across 45 acres at the former Central Prison site in Gandhipuram, the long-awaited project promises to transform the city’s leisure landscape. Key attractions will include a giant Ferris wheel, zipline, immersive rainforest experience, open-air gym, selfie zones, and a modern convention centre.

Originally announced in 2010 by then Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi, the project gained renewed momentum after current Chief Minister M. K. Stalin laid the foundation stone in December 2023. Now 85% complete, the park is scheduled for inauguration on August 15. While initially planned for a June opening, the timeline was extended due to design revisions aimed at enhancing adventure-based features to boost visitor engagement.

In addition to its recreational offerings, Semmozhi Park will also feature a botanical garden housing 219 endangered plant species mentioned in Sangam literature, along with a herbal garden comprising 2,500 traditional trees and medicinal plants. The Ferris wheel and zipline are being developed through a public-private partnership (PPP) under the build-operate-transfer model.
