Delhi's Water Future: DJB Taps AI Power with IIT-Kanpur

The Delhi Jal Board (DJB) has partnered with IIT-Kanpur to develop an AI-driven urban water management model for the national capital.

Announced on 14 November 2025, the collaboration aims to tackle key urban water challenges—including reducing non-revenue water, enabling predictive maintenance of infrastructure, and enabling real-time monitoring of water and sewage treatment plants. The initiative, undertaken with IIT-Kanpur’s Airawat Research Foundation (ARF), will integrate advanced AI tools to enhance the efficiency of water and wastewater management systems.

The project will also support the Clean Yamuna mission by improving monitoring of wastewater discharge and pollution levels. In addition, AI-enabled systems will aid groundwater management by combining borewell and satellite data to strengthen sustainable aquifer monitoring.
