Devegowda Pushes for Swift Completion of Melapura Water Project

Former Minister and Chamundeshwari MLA G.T. Devegowda has urged officials to expedite the Melapura drinking water project to resolve ongoing water shortages in Mysuru's peripheral areas, including Rammanahalli, Vasantha Nagar, and nearby layouts.

The appeal was made during a meeting at the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) Zone-3 office, which was attended by officials from the MCC, Mysuru Development Authority (MDA), and the Karnataka Urban Water Supply and Drainage Board (KUWSDB). Discussions focused on ensuring equitable water distribution to underserved areas on the city's outskirts.

Devegowda directed officials to accelerate the completion of works under the Amrut-2 scheme and instructed them to prepare a new Detailed Project Report (DPR) covering neglected layouts.

KUWSDB officials confirmed that water supply from Melapura is currently underway, with plans to extend the supply to additional layouts. A proposal to deliver five million liters per day (MLD) to areas including Rammanahalli has been included. Moreover, a ₹34 crore project involving the construction of six overhead water tanks is set to benefit localities such as Hanchya and Kalisiddanahundi.
